Canadian Airports and Business Community Tackle Safety, Security and Health Issues at Airports Conference

October 19, 2005, Ottawa, ON – Senior airport managers, leaders in the business community and government decision-makers will come together to tackle some of the most important issues they face at the 8th Annual CAC/ACI-NA Management Conference, to be held in Ottawa, November 15 & 16, 2005.

Themed “Safe, Efficient and Uniquely Canadian”, this two-day event will focus on the how airports can best function in an environment that is driven by heightened regulatory requirements and how new safety and security needs and protocols affect their ability to meet their users needs.

“Whether it’s a one day business meeting or trade with China, air access is a critical element in Canadian businesses’ strategies” said CAC President and CEO Jim Facette.  “This conference will take a long, hard look at what is required of airports today, and what changes we can make to ensure that while we stay vigilant, we also are keeping our doors open to the free flow of goods and people that drive the air sector in Canada”.

The conference reflects not only current issues and information, but prepares for the future as well.  Sessions include panels on getting ready for a potential influenza outbreak, a look at self-regulation models and what needs to be done to get the security/access balance right.  Business leaders will discuss the future of air travel.

Business and government speakers include the Hon. Jean-C Lapierre, Minister of Transport, Nancy Anthony-Hughes, President & CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Perrin Beatty, President & CEO Canadian Manufacturers and Exports and Cliff Mackay, President and CEO of the Air Transport Association of Canada.
