CAC Welcomes the New Liberalized Air Services Agreement with China
April 19, 2005, Ottawa, ON –The Canadian Airports Council welcomes the liberalized air services that will result from the agreement with China that was announced today by Transport Minister Lapierre.
"Canadian airports have been looking for the kind of opportunities that increased traffic between Canada and China will bring" said Jim Facette, President and CEO of the Canadian Airports Council. "The additional capacity and flexibility in this agreement will improve business contacts and bring more tourists directly from China to Canada", he continued.
Given the current level of trade between China and Canada, this liberalized agreement will enhance air cargo services as well. Air cargo is becoming an important business segment. Canadian airports are located on the great circle routes between China and the U.S. and they can offer shippers more space and easier access to all of North America.
